Guy Burry

GUY BURRY
Chair, Pension Fund Investment Committee | York University

After initially attending the University of Toronto studying Physical Health and Education, Guy graduated from York University in 1982 with a BA in Sociology and Economics.

Guy Burry has more than 40 years’ experience in pensions, systems, investments, human capital, asset consulting and governance, having worked in all facets of the investment services industry. His experience includes designing, building and implementing global custody systems and trading systems for National Trust and Royal Trust; Vice President at Footprint Software; Chief Information Officer with SEI Financial; Director and Partner with Connor, Clark and LunnPrivate Capital; and independent asset consultant.  Guy has also been involved with many start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures. He is currently Chairman of Craigellachie Corporation. In 2022 Guy was acclaimed to the positions of Township and District Councillor for the Township of Muskoka Lakes and District Councillor for the District Municipality of Muskoka.

Guy has a keen interest in impact investing and the environment. He has made several investments in the sector and ischief strategist of a family office that seeded four venture capital firms dedicated to water, clean technology, and sustainability. He is also currently a Member of the Investment Committee of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities – Green Municipal Fund and was a Member of the GMF Council for 6 years.  Guy was also instrumental in helping the Toronto Atmospheric Fund move to an impact investing platform as its Vice Chair and Chair of the Investment Committee for 12 years beginning in 2000.

Guy is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors Governance College at the Rotman School of Management, attaining his ICD.D designation in 2004 (DEP 1). His Board experience includes Federation of Canadian Municipalities – Green Municipal Fund, Axsium Group, Greenchip Financial, Royal St. Georges College, Enactus Canada, Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund, Tenth Power Technologies Corp, Knightsbridge Human Capital, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare and Toronto East General Hospital as well as several private investment corporations and Limited Partner Advisory Boards. He was an advisor to the Ivey Foundation and the Greenbelt Foundation. He completed a twelve-and-a-half-yearterm of service on the York University Board of Governors in 2013 and is Past Chair of the York University Alumni Association. While on the York University Board he chaired the Investment Committee and was a member of both the Investment and Executive committees. Guy has been a member of the Pension Fund Board of Trustees since 2003 and has been a member of the Pension Fund Investment Committee since 2002 and Chair since 2003.

Joined Mackenzie in 2019. Responsible for the active management of global fixed income mandates, employing fundamental and quantitative strategies. Participates in ESG integration across fixed income mandates.

Worked as a fixed income portfolio manager for 12 years at a global investment firm in Paris, managing global credit and aggregate bond portfolios. BA in mathematics and computer science; two MAs in banking, monetary policies and international finance from Université Paris Dauphine; MBA from Washington University.
